UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents "Role of Transmedia in Interactive Systems" Dr. Sepi Chakaveh Senior Lecturer in Interactive Media Systems (School of Engineering & Technology, University of Hertfordshire) 13 October 2010 (Wednesday) Lecture Theatre A161 Hatfield, College Lane Campus 1 -2 pm Everyone is Welcome to Attend Refreshments will be available Abstract: The underpinning infrastructure, for most of our current day to day devices such as mobile phones, televisions, PC, etc. which allow direct communication between users and machines is created through Media Technology. The latter which is a new and an emerging research field was formed only around some ten years ago on the back-bone of a number of traditional technologies, such as Computer Graphics & Imaging, Data Processing, Broadcasting, System Engineering, Networking, and Artificial Intelligence. Although all the above have been well established research themes, they were only converged to form the new innovative Media Technology field after the birth and subsequent popularity of the Internet. This then enabled the technologists who could with the aid of system integration methods fully exploit the convergence of all the above themes into a completely new technological research area. The underpinning & the quintessential element of Media Technology is the Role of "Metadata" which is exported as "Transmedia Engines or Platforms". In this talk, a broad background of Media Technology is discussed, with some emphasis on Metadata and its role in Media Technology at large. At the end of the talk some short applications will be presented. --------------------------------------------------- Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium http://homepages.stca.herts.ac.uk/~nehaniv/colloq
