UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents "Navigation in Virtual Environments" speaker: Eyal Haik School of Computer Science University of Hertfordshire 16 June 2004 (Wednesday) Lecture Theatre LC108 Hatfield, College Lane Campus 3 - 4 pm Coffee/tea and biscuits will be available. Everyone is Welcome to Attend [Space Permitting] Abstract: Computer desktop three-dimensional virtual environments (VEs) and graphical user interfaces are potentially useful for certain applications. However, the literature often reports on navigation problems that users experience in these environments. The talk will present research that included three studies and was carried out to investigate some of these issues. The focus of the talk will be the first study, which reports on an experimental investigation of several common navigational issues. The talk concludes with a brief presentation of the findings from two further empirical studies. These are related to the influence of individual differences on navigation in VEs. In these studies the importance of individuals' Cognitive Style on task performance and navigation was investigated. This work is done under the supervision of John Sapsford, Trevor Barker and Simon Trainis. _________________________________________________________________ Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium Abstracts On-line: http://homepages.feis.herts.ac.uk/~nehaniv/colloq/
