UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents "Some Examples on How Algebra Can Relate to Other Areas of Mathematics and Computer Science" Prof. Gabor Horvath (University of Debrecen, Hungary) 30 January 2014 (Thursday) 1 pm -2 pm Hatfield, College Lane Campus Seminar Room LC108 Everyone is Welcome to Attend Refreshments will be available Abstract: In the talk we present some examples on how algebra can relate to other areas of mathematics and computer science. Such relations can be twofold: first, one area can motivate the other one, and second, a problem from one area can be solved by utilizing ideas from another area. We show some example to both cases. That is, we present an algebraic problem, motivated by computer science, whose solution requires the application of number theory, then we solve a functional equation with the help of basic group theoretical methods. --------------------------------------------------- Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium http://cs-colloq.stca.herts.ac.uk
