Abstract:

In the talk we present some examples on how algebra can relate to other
areas of mathematics and computer science.  Such relations can be twofold:
first, one area can motivate the other one, and second, a problem from
one area can be solved by utilizing ideas from another area.  We show
some example to both cases.  That is, we present an algebraic problem,
motivated by computer science, whose solution requires the application
of number theory, then we solve a functional equation with the help of
basic group theoretical methods.
