Abstract:



The regular structure of the cerebellar cortex has prompted researchers 
40 years ago to liken the cerebellum to a perceptron or computer. In our
approach, we use computer simulations to make predictions about the 
dynamics of the circuit, starting from firm but incomplete experimental 
data.

In this talk, I will propose that an often neglected component of the 
circuit, providing feedback between the principal neurons, may extend 
the time-constant of the dynamics by a factor of more than one thousand. 
This would explain how this apparently fast circuit can control
processes evolving on time-scales from milliseconds to seconds.
