UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents "Towards Swarm Intelligence in Environmental Monitoring" John Oyekan (University of Essex, UK) 9 February 2011 (Wednesday) Meeting Room LD454 Hatfield, College Lane Campus 1 -2 pm Everyone is Welcome to Attend Refreshments will be available Abstract: In this talk, the presenter will discuss how inspiration was taken from nature to develop a robust, reactive and computationally efficient algorithm to provide 2 dimensional coverage in an environment polluted by an invisible hazardous substance with the aim of extending it to 3 dimensions. This talk would discuss work carried out during the development of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle control system, work carried out during the development of a swarm intelligent coverage controller and how both experience is now being used to develop a Shoal of Robotic Fishes to monitor water quality in seaports as part of the EU Shoal project. The talk would touch very briefly on control systems, bio-inspired robotics, and machine learning. --------------------------------------------------- Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium http://homepages.stca.herts.ac.uk/~nehaniv/colloq
