UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents "CoGEE: A Confidence Guided Estimator for Software Development Effort" Dr. Federica Sarro (Department of Computer Science, University College London) 20 April 2016 (Wednesday) 1 pm - 2 pm Hatfield, College Lane Campus Lecture Theatre LF233 Everyone is Welcome to Attend Refreshments will be available Many software engineering activities concern optimization problems characterized by competing goals/constraints and with a bewilderingly large set of possible choices. So finding good solutions can be hard. Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE) is an approach to software engineering in which search based optimization algorithms are used to identify optimal or near optimal solutions and to get insight into these kinds of problems. In this talk I will provide an overview of SBSE and show how it has been used to attack optimization problems faced by software engineers. Then I will present CoGEE (Confidence Guided Effort Estimator), our recent proposal for software development effort estimation. CoGEE is a multi-objective evolutionary approach that builds robust estimation models by simultaneously maximizing the estimation accuracy and minimizing the uncertainty associated with the estimation model itself. Our proposal creates a new state-of-the-art that lies within currently claimed industrial human-expert-based thresholds, thereby demonstrating that our findings have actionable conclusions for practicing software engineers. --------------------------------------------------- Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium http://homepages.herts.ac.uk/~nehaniv/colloq/
