UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM BioCrunch Series "A Closer Look at Gene Transcription" Dr. Maria Schilstra BioComputation Research Group University of Hertfordshire 14 December 2005 (Wednesday) Lecture Theatre E350 Hatfield, College Lane Campus 3 - 4 pm Coffee/tea and biscuits will be available. [Catering Permitting] Everyone is Welcome to Attend [Space Permitting] Abstract: In previous seminars in the BioCrunch series, we have heard about statistical properties of the DNA sequences that are associated with genes. In this seminar, I want to tell a bit more about the DNA transcription process itself: what is actually happening when the information in the DNA sequence is transcribed into RNA, and how one could go about modelling this process. I will explain how I set up a stochastic Petri-net model of gene transcription, and present some of the predictions that it makes. -- Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium http://homepages.feis.herts.ac.uk/~nehaniv/colloq
