UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM "Lessons of using Single Assignment C in numerical modelling of the KPI equation" Dr. Sven-Bodo Scholz (School of Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire) 22 March 2006 (Wednesday) Lecture Theatre E350 Hatfield, College Lane Campus 3 - 4 pm Coffee/tea and biscuits will be available. [Catering Permitting] Everyone is Welcome to Attend [Space Permitting] Abstract: This talk will introduce the KPI equation which finds a broad range of applications in modelling natural phenomena. We define the challenge of writing complex numerical code in a functional language and discuss the experience we have gained from this. A contrasting implementation in Fortran is presented to highlight the advantages of the functional style. Finally some performance data are presented to demonstrate the maturity of the SaC compiler. -------------------------------------------------- Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium http://homepages.feis.herts.ac.uk/~nehaniv/colloq
