Abstract:

   This talk discusses  the measurement of social perceptions and
expectations of robots using questionnaires, and their relationship
with responses to specific robot behaviours. I will describe the use
of personality attributions as measurement of social expectations
as well as the assigment of social roles to robots as measurements.
The primary testbed for measuring the impact of these social perceptions
and expectations has been through human-robot proxemics studies. Work
conducted as part of this project has found relationships between
personality attribution and proxemic preferences and evaluations as well
as between expected social roles and proxemic preferences.  I will also
discuss longitudinal aspects of social perceptions of robots.
