UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents "Networking Research - Going through the Layers" Dr. Athanasios Tsokanos (School of Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire) 25 November 2015 (Wednesday) 1 pm -2 pm Hatfield, College Lane Campus Lecture Theatre LF233 Everyone is Welcome to Attend Refreshments will be available Abstract: This talk is intended to present my research efforts in years past as well as current and past trends in networking research. The word 'layers' is partially referring to the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI) and partially to the discovery of your true research calling (if there is one!) in the mist of a very fast evolving field. There will be topics such as Internet traffic modelling, Optical networking, Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and some current experimental efforts with Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). The presentation will have a story-like progression connecting my research to my industry days and how research areas shifted or died throughout the years. There will be brief encounters with topics such as employability after a PhD, the Horizon 2020 research grants and connections between the real networking world and the research world. --------------------------------------------------- Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium http://cs-colloq.stca.herts.ac.uk
