UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents "Quantum Remote Control" speaker: Dr. John A. Vaccarro Department of Physical Sciences University of Hertfordshire 20 November 2002 (Wednesday) Lecture Theatre E351 Hatfield Campus 3 - 4 pm Coffee/tea and biscuits will be available. Everyone is Welcome to Attend [Space Permitting] Abstract: Quantum computers promise staggering computing power. However, life in the quantum world is not a complete bed of roses. For example, perfect copying or cloning is not allowed. Nor is full remote control. I will review a number of basic concepts such as qubits, entanglement and the quantum no-cloning theorem. I will then show the limits quantum theory places on remote control. In a nutshell, there are fewer couch potatoes in the quantum world. -- Hertfordshire Computer Science Research Colloquium Abstracts On-line: http://homepages.feis.herts.ac.uk/~nehaniv/colloq/
