[*** NOTE TIME IS TUESDAY MORNING 10 am, LOCATION E351] UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents "Intelligence by Design" speaker: Dr. Joanna J. Bryson (Computer Science, University of Bath) 20 April 2004 (***Tuesday***) Lecture Theatre ** E351 ** Hatfield, College Lane Campus ** 10 - 11 am ** Coffee/tea and biscuits will be available. Everyone is Welcome to Attend [Space Permitting] Abstract: One of the dark secrets of AI is that, with all our progress in learning and development, it still requires a lot of programming to make a working humanoid agent. In this talk I will explain why this is true. I will also present a methodology, Behavior Oriented Design, for optimising the amount of work the designers do with respect to the amount of learning the agent can do for itself. I will show some of the agents I've developed with this methodology, including: * - new models of primate task learning, * - new models of primate social behaviour, * - old robot & maybe some old VR video (just to be flashy).
