Abstract:

This talk will present an overview of Dr Diego R. Faria's past and ongoing research within the topics of socially assistive robotics and  advanced human-machine interfaces, but will also provide specific information on two study cases, where topics related to artificial perception systems and machine learning are used within the perception-reasoning-(inter)action loop to deal with real-world problems such as (i) recognition of daily activities using a probabilistic approach and (ii) an ongoing research related to child-machine interaction, a novel approach for neurocognitive training via AI-led gamification and brain-computer interfaces within academic engagement to monitor emotional reactions and concentration levels of children with neurodevelopmental disorders.
