UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM presents Guided Navigation: How to Find Your Cake in the First Place. An Exploratory Study speaker: Dr. Guy Saward (University of Hertfordshire) 22 May 2002 (Wednesday) Lecture Theatre LC108 Hatfield Campus 3:30 pm Coffee/tea and biscuits will be available. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND! Abstract: Current methods of navigation are polarised between browsing and searching. Unguided browsing leaves the user in control and free to explore at the risk of getting lost in some complex information space. Stand-alone searching means users see only what they have asked for, and relies on them knowing how to specify their needs in the right way. This talk presents the concept of guided navigation that combines browsing and searching in a single navigation paradigm. Its application to a number of information sources will be demonstrated and discussed along with potential benefits and future research directions. - Hertfordshire Computer Science Colloquium Schedule & Abstracts On-line: http://homepages.feis.herts.ac.uk/~nehaniv/colloq/
